The First United Methodist Church of Carlisle was founded in 1818 as First Methodist Episcopal Church. They met in a building that was also used as a local school and a place of worship for the
Presbyterians. In 1871, the old church property was sold and new lots were purchased. In 1874, the new
church was dedicated.
