Biographical Sketch


Dr. Carson served in the active ministry for over 44 years. He began preaching while still in college at Asbury College (now DePauw University) and then went to the NIC to serve.

He was one of the founders of Epworth Forest; for 25 years he served as a member of the Board of directors of the Wesley Foundation at Ball State; he was District Director of Christian Education for six terms; and for ten years he was President of the Conference Historical Society. He was active in several other historical societies, as well as being a founder of the DePauw University and UMC Archives.

The collection includes miscellaneous items, including correspondence with Dr. Worth M. Tippy, Eleanore Cammack, Dr. Robert Farber, Joseph Iglehart, and Russell S. Dozer. Also included are papers sent to the Archives after Rev. M.B.McClure resigned as chairman of the Joint Archives Committee; "History of NIC 1917-1956"; notes on Methodist Protestant Church; letters; clippings; Preacher's Aid Society; and an address on P.A.S. given by HRC at Centerville, 1954. "Afterglow" by Worth M. Tippy; "Water Baptism" by W.H. Fisher; and "Her Friends Speak"-- the life of Ruth Lebo Smith" by Charles H. Smith.
