In 1856 a group met at Tobinsport to form a Methodist church. A log cabin served as a meeting place until 1876 when a church home with erected. This little white church was called Turner's Chapel. In 1929 Clayton Harris, a friend and non-member of the church, died and left the church $4000 plus $500 for upkeep of the cemetery. A brick building was built in 1933 and named the Clayton Harris Memorial Methodist Church. Many improvements have been made since that time.
