Historical Sketch
In 1824, the first meeting of the Methodists was held in the home of John Macy. John Cord organized the Mt. Zion MEC and led the first service. A log church was built west of Cloverdale later that year and was used until 1848, when a new building was erected east of US 231. This building was used until 1873, when a larger frame one was built one block north on the west side of US 231. On Sept. 8, 1941, the church was destroyed by fire and services were conducted in the American Legion Hall while the new building was being built. The first worship service was held on Aug. 9, 1942. On Oct. 10, 1954, a new addition was dedicated and in 1957, the church purchased a house for the parsonage. A new parsonage was built in 1970. On June 1-2, 1974, they celebrated its 150th anniversary.
Land was donated on Burma Road to erect a new and larger building, which was dedicated on Sept. 28, 1980.
