From Beanies to Gravestones:  Collecting Artifacts in the Archives
Presented at the Society of American Archivists Conference
Chicago, IL - September 1, 2007
by Wesley Wilson (wwwilson@depauw.edu)

Abstract:

Artifacts present unique challenges to archivists who must collect and store a wide variety of artifacts that arrive with new collections. While most archives do not actively collect artifacts, those that arrive must be given proper handling as a responsibility to the historical record and the donor. Carefully selected examples can be used in support of historical documents by researchers and in exhibits.
