Helping First-Time Voters
Poster presented at American Library Association 2004 Annual Conference
Orlando, Florida - June 2004

Abstract:
November 2, 2004 will be the first presidential election that most college & university students can participate in. Most are unsure of what they need to do and know before they can vote, and most don’t vote. (In 2000, less than 1/3 of 18 to 22 year olds voted.)

Librarians, especially those of us at colleges, universities, & high schools, can play an important role in the democratic process by providing our patrons with information about voting procedures, candidates, parties, and platforms; and the importance of voting. This poster features ways that DePauw University librarians are helping our students learn about the candidates and issues, and also how to register, and when and where to vote.

This poster Helping First-Time Voters is a single, rather large PowerPoint slide. To view it properly, save it to your computer and then open it using PowerPoint.
