Competency Requirements

All music majors are required to demonstrate competence in writing (W) by the end of the junior year. In addition, students in the B.M.A. and B.M.E. degree programs must demonstrate competence in oral communication skills (S) by the time of graduation. For B.M.E. degree students, S certification is earned through student teaching.

Students in the School of Music are not required to demonstrate competency in quantitative reasoning (Q).

Music majors in the College of Liberal Arts (working on the B.A. degree) must demonstrate competence in writing (W), quantitative reasoning (Q), and oral communication skills (S).
