Miscellaneous Policies

Fees for Applied Lessons
For all music majors the University fully subsidizes the fees for applied lessons (both primary and secondary) required for the specific degree program in which a student is enrolled. For a performance major (in the B.M. degree program), for example, a total of seven credits are subsidized (six credits of the primary instrument and one credit of the secondary instrument). It is University policy, however, that music majors are responsible for paying the appropriate applied fees for lessons taken beyond those required by the degree program. As a result it is not uncommon for a student to exceed the subsidized amount of credit, and thus incur some applied fees, in the senior year.

Internships
The music/business emphasis within the B.M.A. degree program (and the music/business emphasis combined with a performance major in the B.M. degree program) requires a credit-bearing internship experience. This internship may be fulfilled by either a semester-long experience or by a project undertaken during Winter Term.

Instrument Loans
University instruments are available for student use. No rental fees are charged. The Director of University Bands monitors the use of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments; the members of the string faculty monitor the use of string instruments.
