Daniel Foster

Director of Jazz Ensembles

Dan Foster is the Director of Jazz Ensembles at DePauw University.  He
holds a B.M. Trumpet Performance degree from Mansfield University of
Pennsylvania and a M.M. Jazz Studies degree with a concentration in
Jazz Pedagogy from the University of North Texas.  Dan was the lead
trumpet player for the world-renowned and Grammy-nominated University
of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band for two years and backed artists
such as Lyle Mays, John Mosca, Wayne Bergeron, Denis DiBlasio, Tim
Ries, and Bernard Fowler.  He toured and performed with the One
O'Clock Lab Band at the Guiness Jazz Festival in Cork, Ireland; on a
radio and internet broadcasted show from the Bull's Head in London,
England; with the Houston Symphony; at Catalina's Jazz Club in Los
Angeles; and at the Jazz Educators' Network New Orleans conference.
He also performed on lead trumpet with the UNT Two and Three O'Clock
Lab Bands, as well as the Zebras (an ensemble performing the music of
Tower of Power).  Dan directed the University of North Texas Four and
Seven O'Clock Lab Bands and assisted with the Jazz Fundamentals II
undergraduate class as part of his Teaching Fellowship award.

Dan is an active performer and clinician.  As a professional freelance
musician of all styles, Dan has performed with the following: Sol
Kitchen, Urban Renewal, Bill Tillman Band, Bulletproof Brass, The
Project Band, Dance Fuze, Hunter Sullivan Big Band, Rebel Alliance
Jazz Orchestra, Alan Glasscock Jazz Orchestra, Lone Star Jazz
Orchestra, The Equinox Jazz Orchestra, Jim Rigg's Official Texas Jazz
Orchestra, Shelley Carrol/Brad Leali Big Band, The Jazz Exchange,
Mason Warrington Orchestra, Billtown Brass, the Dave Golando Big Band,
Bill O'Connell's Chicago Skyliners Big Band, and various classical and
pop church ensembles.  Dan formed and led the "10:01 Lab Band" in the
Spring of 2011; a reading big band that performed in clubs in Denton,
TX.  He has performed for four years as a contract musician for
Princess Cruise Lines.  Dan is also a veteran of the 10th Mountain
Division Army Band and honored our country's fallen by playing "Taps"
at over 200 military funerals and remembrance ceremonies.

Dan has performed as a guest artist with the Southeastern Oklahoma
State Jazz Band, Green Acres Baptist Church Orchestra in Tyler, TX,
and several high school jazz ensembles.  Dan is found playing lead
trumpet on the Downbeat Magazine Award-winning University of North
Texas Two O'Clock Lab Band's album, "Too Two", a guest appearance on
Backside Pick's album, "Higher Places", and lead trumpet on the One
O'Clock Lab Band's albums, "Lab 2010" and "Lab 2011".  His trumpet
teachers include:  Bernard Shifrin, Dr. H. Michael Galloway, Dale
Orris, Jay Saunders, Mike Steinel, and Bobby Shew.  More details can
