Maureen Carkeek

Maureen Carkeek received degrees in organ from DePauw University and Union Theological Seminary. While in New York City she held positions at St. George’s Chapel and the Dutch Reformed Church in Jersey City. Upon returning to DePauw she taught organ and was a recitalist and lecturer at the Church Music conferences held at DePauw for many years. She was organist of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and also served as assistant organist at Gobin Methodist Church where she conducted a children’s choir which participated in University oratorio and opera performances. In 1971 she started extensive piano study with Natasha Magg and now teaches piano exclusively.
In 1980 she taught in the Vienna, Austria program. She has served as adjudicator for IMTA and MTNA. Many of her students are professional organists and pianists. Her students have won awards and competitions including the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Young Musicians contest. She has published Three Short Carols with H. W. Gray. Appointed 1950.
