Katya Kramer-Lapin

Katya Kramer, 27, started to take piano lessons at the age of 5 in the Special Music Liceum attached to the Gnessin Academy in Moscow (Russia). During her studies there she frequently performed solo and chamber music at the Moscow State Conservatory halls.   Later she became a member of the New Names Charity Foundation.  As a member of this program she performed extensively in Russia, Europe and the US, following the 25th Anniversary Charity Concert at the UNESCO Headquarters, sponsored by Pope John Paul II.   She also performed for the Russian president and the Patriarch Aleksey II at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow.  

In 1996 she entered the Hochshule fur Musik in Cologne, Germany, studying under Prof. Karin Merle.   Katya entered the Oberlin Conservatory in 1999; there she studied with Prof. Lydia Frumkin, and received her bachelor’s degree in 2003.   While at Oberlin, she performed solo recitals at the World Bank, Washington, DC, and toured as a soloist and chamber performer to Taiwan. Katya has completed her Master of Music and Performers Diploma programs at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, studying with Prof. Shigeo Neriki. Currently she is accepted to continue her studies at IU as an Artist Diploma candidate. While at IU, Katya performed actively both as a soloist and chamber musician, including concerts with IU faculty, professor of flute Kathryn Lukas. Katya is a founding member of chamber duo “Amabile” with her husband violinist Matvey Lapin, a former member of St. Petersburg String Quartet (quartet-in-residence at Oberlin College Conservatory).The duo performs actively throughout the United States since 2003. Its repertoire includes classical, romantic and modern works - from Mozart sonatas up to late contemporary music, including newly composed pieces, dedicated to the duo.

2002 ─ Elvin Prize piano Competition (Oberlin Conservatory)
2004 ─ Indianapolis, Matinee Musicale Scholarship Piano Competition
