DePauw University senior Elizabeth R. Gering is the recipient of a 2016 Indiana Outstanding College Student of Spanish Award. The honor is presented by the Indiana Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

An awards ceremony will take place Saturday, November 5, during the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association Conference at the Sheraton Hotel Indianapolis, Keystone at the Crossing.

"Elizabeth Gering really deserves this renowned state award," states Israel Fernando Herrera, immediate past president of AATSP Indiana and chair of the distinction and recognition committee. "Her outstanding academic excellence, exceptional interest for the Iberoamerican culture, valuable community service, and astonishing passion for Spanish were evident in the nomination sent by DePauw Professor Paul Johnson ['04]."

Gering is a Spanish and anthropology double-major at DePauw and has been a member of the Tiger women's soccer team.
