Tigers Extend Win Streak to Four with Win over Oberlin

Greencastle, Ind. - After leading by just five at halftime, DePauw opened the second half with a 21-4 run on the way to a 69-37 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over Oberlin. The Tigers improved to 12-5 overall and 6-2 in the NCAC with their fourth straight win, while the Yeomen dropped to 6-11 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
DePauw used a 9-1 stretch in the first half to take a 25-15 lead with less than five minutes remaining, but the Tigers were shut out the rest of the half as Oberlin scored the final five points to trim DePauw's lead to 25-20 at the break.
Barry Flynn and Kevin Sullivan opened the second half with baskets to push the lead back to nine. After Oberlin's Andrew Fox scored, Michael Wilkison nailed a three before Sean Haseley and Flynn added buckets to extend the Tigers' lead to 36-22 with 16:04 left.
Josh Merritt stopped the run with a layup, but Wilkison hit another three, Haseley made two free throws, Ian Rumpp buried a three and Haseley added another basket to make it 46-24 with just under 12 minutes left.
Oberlin was as close as 19 the rest of the way and DePauw led by as many as 33.
Flynn led DePauw with 12 points, while Haseley added 11 and a team-high nine rebounds. Haseley and Sullivan each dished out four assists. The Tigers held a 41-27 edge on the boards.
Merritt paced Oberlin with 21 points, while Fox grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
DePauw shot 49 percent for the game and hit 8-of-19 three-pointers. The Tigers shot 53.8 percent in the second half and were 6-of-10 from beyond the arc over the final 20 minutes. Oberlin shot just 21.2 percent from the field and only 17.4 percent in the second half.
The Tigers travel to Wittenberg on Wednesday, January 25, for an 8 p.m. NCAC contest, while Oberlin hosts Denison at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.Back
