800 Free Relay Earns Honorable Mention All-America

Indianapolis, Ind. - DePauw's 800-yard freestyle relay set a school record and earned honorable mention all-America with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium.
Casey Hooker, Matt Haeske, Robby Spichiger and John Montgomery finished in 6:44.38 which was .76 seconds faster than the previous record established at this year's North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
In this morning's prelims, Matt Gleason was 20th in the 200 butterfly in 1:52.19, while Matt Kukurugya was 31st in the 100 breaststroke in 58.56 seconds.
As a team, the 10th-ranked Tigers are 21st with 32 points. Denison leads with 471 followed by Kenyon with 359 and Emory with 287.
On Wednesday, the 200 medley relay of Alex Alfonso, Matt Kukurugya, Matt Gleason and Joe Hessburg earned honorable mention all-America with a 16th place finish, while the 400 medley relay of Hooker, Kukurugya, Gleason and Montgomery did the same yesterday with a 12th-place showing. On Thursday, Hooker earned individual honorable mention all-America distinction with a 15th-place finish in the 200 free.
The Tigers return to the pool on Saturday morning with prelims starting at 10 a.m. DePauw's competition schedule is listed below.
