Tigers Drop Tight Contest to #7 Lynchburg

Lynchburg, Va. - Seventh-ranked Lynchburg scored three first-half goals and held on for a 3-2 victory over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 1-1 on the season, while the Hornets improved to 2-0.
Ashley Nelson put the hosts ahead at 13:58 on Morgan Lammando's assist before Lindsay Leonard made it 2-0 on Nelson's assists at 22:48.
DePauw's Margaret Ellis cut the Hornets' lead in half at 28:37 on Bridgette Shamleffer's assist before Lynchburg's Colleen Dore rounded out the first-half scoring with help from Lammando with just 1:16 left in the half.
Ellis scored, unassisted, at 49:05, but that would mark the game's final goal.
DePauw held a 15-13 lead in shots including an 11-4 advantage in the second half. The Tigers also held a 10-9 edge in shots on goal. Each team finished with six penalty corners.
Maggie Steele totaled three saves for the Tigers, while Hannah Myers had eight for Lynchburg.
DePauw, defending North Coast Athletic Conference co-champions, open NCAC play on Wednesday, September 5, at 5 p.m.
