Spikers Sweep Pair to Send Off Seniors

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw capped off its 2012 home campaign and saluted its seniors with Saturday afternoon victories over Hiram and Franklin at Neal Fieldhouse. With the victories, the Tigers moved to 23-3 on the season, 7-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and an unblemished, 10-0 record on their home floor.
In the early match of the day, the Tigers’ downed Hiram in three sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) to secure the second seed in the NCAC Championship. Leading the DePauw attack was sophomore Mary Kate Etling, smashing 10 kills on 26 swings and partnering on two successful blocks.
With the blistering play of Lauren Falotico (.364), DePauw outhit Hiram .262 to .118.
Faith Rolwes once again led the Tigers’ with 38 assists while Tierra Moore led the Terriers with 30.
DePauw spread the wealth in the dig department, having three different players accounting for 10 or more digs on the match. Tori Bowerman led the way with 19, while Keely McGrath and Falotico finished with 13 apiece.
The Tigers stepped back on the court for a nightcap against in-state foe Franklin College in the final match for seniors Katie Petrovich and Hannah Nelson on the Neal Fieldhouse floor. The senior duo would go out on top as they celebrated a three-set victory over Franklin 25-22, 25-13, 25-18.
The Tigers’ defense was in top form against the Grizzlies, tallying four solo blocks and six block assists’. Additionally, Franklin registered a negative hitting percentage in two sets (2nd -.103, 3rd -.024) and managed only a .128 clip in the first set. As a whole, the Grizzlies hit .009 for the entire match, their lowest output since the first weekend of the season.
Rolwes led DePauw in assists with 34 and Brooke Stamper steered the Franklin attack, accounting for 19 assists. McGrath, playing in her libero position, recorded 21 digs for the Tigers.
DePauw returns to the floor next Saturday at Mount Union for a doubleheader against Heidelberg #14 Mount Union at Noon and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
