November 1, 2012
Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw (18-1) advanced to the North Coast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Tournament championship game for the second straight year and picked up its school-record 18th win following a 3-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan (10-8) in the NCAC semifinal game.
The Tigers will host Denison in Saturday's Noon championship game after the Big Red topped Wooster, 4-1, in today's other semifinal contest.
The win broke the previous school record for wins in a season of 17 set in 1987 and 1999 and also tied the NCAC mark set three previous times. Additionally, the 17-game win streak, already an NCAC record, matches the school record set in 1999.
Paige Henry gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with her 10th goal of the season at 24:19 and that's the way the score stood at the intermission.
Margaret Ellis delivered her 26th goal of the year on Chelsea Cutler's assist at 37:19 before Maggie Campbell rounded out the scoring at 44:07 with her fourth goal of the season.
DePauw outshot Ohio Wesleyan 23-0 including a 17-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Tigers also held a 16-1 edge in corners.
Maggie Steele recorded her nation-leading 14th shutout for DePauw, while Karson Stevenson had 13 saves for the Battling Bishops.
