Walker Named to D3hoops.com Team of the Week

MEC 501Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw senior guard Kate Walker (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) was named to this week’s D3hoops.com’s Team of the Week after her performances in three Tigers victories last week.

In the three wins, Walker averaged 9.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists while committing just three turnovers for a 5.7:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

She scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds and recorded two steals in 31 minutes against Washington-St. Louis. Walker hit two free throws with seven seconds left in the game to give the Tigers a 60-59 win. She also had seven assists each against Wilmington and Illinois Wesleyan.

Walker was also named this week’s North Coast Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Her efforts helped the Tigers improve to a 5-0 record for the first time since 2002.

With the defeat of two top 10 teams, the Tigers earned their first number-one rankings during the regular season. DePauw picked up all eight first-place votes in the USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. The Tigers also earned top rankings on the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll by collected 23 of 25 first-place votes and totaling 621 points.

The Tigers open defense of their North Coast Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, December 1, when they travel to Denison for a 2 p.m. contest.
