DePauw Men Off to Strong Start at Invitational

Greencastle, Ind. - After the first of two days of competition at the 26th annual DePauw Invitational, DePauw holds a 165-point lead over second-place Rose-Hulman. The Tigers totaled 526 points to Rose-Hulman's 361 and Wittenberg's 264.
DePauw's 200-yard freestyle relay of Blake Lehmann, Alex Alfonso, Matt Bacinich and Jack Burgeson started the morning session with a win in an NCAA "B" time of 1:22.45.
The Tigers' 800 free relay of Casey Hooker, Robby Spichiger, Matt Haeske and Alex Grissom also won in a meet and pool record as well as "B" time of 6:49.95. Alfonso, Matt Kukurugya, Matt Gleason and Lehmann wrapped up the evening with a first in meet and pool record and a "B" time of 3:25.15.
Grissom won the 500 free in 4:39.05, while Spichiger was second in the event in 4:47.84. Kukurugya finished ahead of the field in the 100 breaststroke in 58.23 seconds with Luke Hessburg finishing third in 59.04.
George Morrison won the 200 backstroke in 1:57.24 with Chris Ercoli was third in 2:00.29. Hooker finished first in the 100 free in 46.22 seconds followed by Lehmann in second in 46.38, Burgeson in third in 46.81 and Alfonso in fourth in 46.94.
Stephen McMurtry was second in the 200 individual medley in 1:59.57 and in the 200 butterfly in 1:57.75.
Prelims for tomorrow's final day begin at 9:30 with finals slated for 4:30 p.m.
