Tigers Drop Opening Two Games of Season
March 2, 2013
Memphis, Tenn. - DePauw opened the 2013 season at the Softball Showcase of Hope to Benefit St. Jude, hosted by Rhodes College, and dropped the opening two games. The Tigers lost to Rhodes, 4-3, before dropping an 8-1 decision to Wisconsin-Platteville.
In the opener against Rhodes, DePauw fell behind in 2-0 as the Lynx scored a pair in the bottom of the third. However, the Tigers came right back with three in the fourth on back-to-back doubles from Amy Hallett and Linsey Button and a two-run homer off the bat of Haleigh Chasteen in just her second collegiate plate appearance.
Rhodes scored the game-winning runs in the bottom of the sixth as it loaded the bases with two outs and scored a pair on a DePauw infield error.
Jennifer Ridge went 3-for-4 in the loss, while Hallett was 2-for-3. Emily Bichler suffered the loss in the circle.
DePauw scored first against Wisconsin-Platteville as Catherine Conte's double scored Sammi Bell in the fifth. The lead was short-lived as Platteville plated six in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Three different Tigers collected one hit apiece, while Emily Dieckmann dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
