March 26, 2013
Winter Haven, Fla. - DePauw pounded out 20 hits against 12th-ranked St. Thomas (Minn.), but the Tommies totaled 14 hits and drew 11 walks on the way to a 17-12 win over the Tigers.
DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the second as J.B. McCallum's single scored Brendon Pashia and Pat Lyons drove in Paul Mpistolarides.
The Tommies, however, scored six times in the bottom of the frame as the first three batters reached on walks before an error allowed one run to score. Another base on balls followed by Ben Podobinski's two-run single and Jon Kinsel's sacrifice fly made it 6-2.
St. Thomas scored two more in the third before the Tigers plated one in the fourth. The Tommies extended the lead to 13-3 with one in the fourth and four in the fifth.
McCallum led DePauw with four hits, while Lyons, Zach Galyean and Cory Meixner each had three. Ben Podobinski led the Tommies with four hits and five RBI, while Tim Kuzniar finished with three hits and Sam Miller knocked in four.
DePauw starter Eric Steele dropped to 0-1, while St. Thomas starter Josh Kubitschek picked up the win.
The Tigers are scheduled to open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Friday, March 29, when they host Denison in a Noon doubleheader from Walker Field.
