DePauw Splits NCAC West Doubleheader at Wabash

Crawfordsville, Ind. - DePauw banged out 14 hits in the nightcap of its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wabash to earn an 8-6 win after dropping a 3-2 decision in the opener.
DePauw is now 13-12 overall and 6-4 in NCAC West Division play, while the Little Giants are 10-13 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
In the opener, DePauw took a quick 1-0 lead as Pat Lyons led off with a double and later scored on Jason Cohen's single.
Wabash countered in the bottom half of the inning when Chad Gindelberger singled with one out and scored on Andrew Rogers' double to center.
Robbie Stein led off the DePauw second by reaching on an error and moved to second on Cory Meixner's sacrifice bunt. After Matt Dorsett reached on an error that allowed Stein to move to third, Lyons followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Stein.
The Little Giants scored what would be the game-winning runs in the fourth when Rodgers singled and moved to second on an error on the play. Tyler Owensby followed with a two-out single that scored Rodgers. Owensby advanced to second on the throw on the play and then scored when Tyler Hampton singled.
Cohen had two of DePauw's four hits with Rodgers and Owensby each totaling two of the Little Giants' eight hits.
Michael Chiaro dropped to 2-3 with the loss and struck out five with no walks. JT Miller improved to 3-3 and totaled six strikeouts with no walks. He limited DePauw to just one baserunner of the game's final five innings.
DePauw's bats came alive in the second game as the Tigers scored three in the second. Brendon Pashia plated Cohen with a single and Ryan Allee followed with a triple that scored Pashia. Allee scored on Paul Mpistolarides' single to center.
Owenby put Wabash on the board in the fourth with a sacrifice fly that scored Robby Hechinger who doubled to lead off the frame.
The Tigers responded with five runs in the fifth as Pashia, Stein and Allee hit consecutive RBI singles. Mpistolarides drove in Stein with a sacrifice fly and Allee came home on a Wabash error.
Clint Scarborough hit a solo homer to lead off the fifth before Lucas Stippler scored on Trey Fankhauser's single.
The Little Giants scored two more in the seventh on back-to-back RBI doubles from Hechinger and Rodgers. Stippler's single in the eighth brought home Hampton for the game's final run.
Lyons, Cohen, Pashia, Stein and Allee each had two of DePauw's 14 hits. Scarborough had three of Wabash's 12 hits with Fankhauser, Hechinger, Rodgers and Hampton adding two each.
Jack Peck picked up the win to improve to 2-3, while Joe Wojda collected his sixth save and tied the DePauw career record with his 14th. Josh Piercey dropped to 3-2.
The two teams battle again in a Noon twinbill tomorrow at Wabash.
