Top-seed DePauw Knocks out Kenyon in NCAC Tournament

Greencastle, Ind. - Top-seed DePauw stayed alive in the North Coast Athletic Conference Softball Tournament after defeating Kenyon, 6-1, in an elimination game.
The Tigers improved to 22-16 and face Wittenberg at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Ladies finished their season at 22-15.
DePauw struck first with three runs in the opening inning as Lauren Krumwiede singled and stole second. She advanced to third when the Kenyon center fielder was unable to stop a high throw from the catcher.
Amy Hallett followed with a single to center that plated Krumwiede. Hallett then moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on Haleigh Chasteen's sacrifice bunt. Linsey Button's single scored Hallett and Button came home on Sammi Bell's double to right center to make it 3-0.
Chasteen started the third by reaching on a wild pitch on the third strike. Pinch-runner Morgan Pigusch moved to third on Sammi Bell's single to left. Bell attempted to steal second and got into a rundown that allowed Pigusch to score.
Jamie Story singled in the fourth and came home on Krumwiede's double before Amanda Chastang scored in the sixth on Hailey Freres' base hit to left.
Kenyon's lone run came in the sixth when Meredith Williams led off with a triple and scored on Jamie Samuel's sacrifice fly.
Krumwiede and Bell each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while five different Kenyon players totaled one hit apiece.
Kahla Nolan improved to 10-5 and didn't walk a batter, while Maddy Stark dropped to 17-7.
