May 6, 2013
Greencastle, Ind. - Coming off the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship title, the fourth-ranked DePauw women's golf team has earned a 12th straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships after securing an at-large spot in the 21-team field.
The 2013 Championships take place May 14-17 at the Baytowne Golf Course at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Florida.
DePauw has appeared in all but the first two Division III Championships with nine top-four finishes including runner-up performances in 2007, 2008 and 2012. Last year the Tigers were second to Methodist by just six strokes. DePauw's 12 appearances ties Wisconsin-Eau Claire for the second-most in Division III history behind 13-time champion Methodist's 14.
The Tigers average 321.4 strokes over 21 rounds this year and have won seven tournaments including the last four. Paige Gooch (Jr., Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) leads with a 78.15 stroke average while Kelsey Smith (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) is right behind at 78.52. Each has won three tournaments this season. (Gooch pictured far left and Smith near left)
Gooch, the 2011 Division III Freshman of the Year, earned second team all-America honors in 2011 and 2012.
