Romero Earns Division III Spirit Award; Smith and Gooch Garner All-America Honors

Camila RomeroDestin, Fla. - Three DePauw student-athletes were recognized by the Women's Golf Coaches Association at Wednesday's Division III Awards Banquet during the NCAA Division III Championships.

Camila Romero (Sr., Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) was presented the Division III Kim Moore Spirit Award which is given to a student-athlete or coach who exemplifies a great spirit toward the game of golf, a positive attitude on and off the golf course, a role model for her team and mental toughness in facing challenges.

Romero (pictured left) is the second DePauw student-athlete to earn the award since its inception in 2005 as Sarah Gates was the 2006 recipient.

Kelsey SmithKelsey Smith (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) earned WGCA First Team All-America honors after posting a 78.52 stroke average during the regular season and winning three of 12 tournaments. She also turned in 10 top-10 finishes with nine in the top five. Smith also recorded the Tigers' two lowest rounds including a 70 on the way to a second-place finish at the highly competitive O'Brien National Invitational. She finished second behind Gooch at the four-round North Coast Athletic Conference Championships and won the second NCAC Championship event.

Paige GoochPaige Gooch (Jr., Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) was a WGCA Second Team All-America choice as she had a 78.15 stroke average including three individual firsts and eight top-10 finishes with six in the top five. She was the overall medalist at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships and won the first NCAC Championship event. She also was named the NCAC Player of the Year.

Each also was named to the all-Great Lakes Region Team.

The fourth-ranked Tigers are appearing in their 12th straight NCAA Championship and head to today's final round in sixth place. Gooch is tied for fourth and Smith is tied for 18th among the 111 individuals.
