Paige Gooch Named Capital One Academic All-America®

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw rising senior Paige Gooch (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood), a member of the women's golf team, has been selected to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Women's At-Large Second Team.

The team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and Gooch is DePauw's first golfer to earn the distinction.

Through her first five semesters, Gooch carried a 3.68 cumulative grade point average while majoring in both economics and mathematics. She also is a student in DePauw's Management Fellows Program.

Paige Gooch   DePauw (2)Gooch finished in a tie for 12th at the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships as she led the Tigers to an eighth-place finish. She earned Women's Golf Coaches Association second team all-America honors for the third straight year and was the WGCA Freshman of the Year in 2011.

The Tigers' leader with a 78.21 stroke average this year, Gooch won three tournaments and finished in the top 10 in eight of the 13 events in which she competed. Her season-low round of 73 came in the opening round of the NCAA Championships.

Gooch was the overall medalist at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships and won the first NCAC Championship event. She also was named the NCAC Player of the Year and was named to the WGCA All-Great Lakes Region Team.

In her three seasons, she's posted a 79.32 stroke average and has won five tournaments with a best round of 72.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
