Musa Golden, #20 Tigers Need Overtime to Stay Perfect

Greencastle, Ind.- The 20th-ranked Tigers needed overtime to stay undefeated as they defeated Hiram College 2-1 in both teams North Coast Athletic Conference opener. With the win DePauw improved to 8-0 and 1-0 in the NCAC, while the Terriers dropped to 2-6-1 and 0-1 in the NCAC.
After a scoreless first-half the Tigers were the first team to strike when Adrian Ables drove home an unassisted goal with 50:33 on the clock. The Terries battled back and tied the contest when Rufin Sime scored in the 70th-minute.
A controversial red card was issued to Hiram’s Zaire Morrison with 75:28 on the clock forcing the Terriers to play a man down for the rest of the contest. At the end of the second-half the score remained tied at 1-1.
DePauw needed just 53 seconds in the first golden-goal overtime to send the Tiger fans home happy. Alieu Musa connected on a crossing pass from Nick Williams to keep the Tigers perfect.
The Tigers outshot Hiram 10-4 and held a 9-6 edge on corner kicks. The Terrier’s goal was just the second goal DePauw has allowed all season.
DePauw returns to action Sunday, September 22, when they take on non-conference foe Olivet. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm at Boswell Field.Back
