#1 Ohio Wesleyan Hands 10th-ranked Tigers Their First Defeat

Greencastle, Ind.- The 10th-ranked Tigers gave the nation’s top team all they could handle Saturday night, but ultimately fell to Ohio Wesleyan by a final score of 3-1.
With the loss DePauw dropped to 11-1-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the Bishops improved to 14-0 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC.
The two teams played 77 minutes of scoreless soccer before Ohio Wesleyan finally knocked in a goal. Colton Bloecher drove home a pass from Gunner Bloecher putting the Bishops up 1-0. Just 16 seconds later the Tigers were awarded a penalty kick after a handball was called. Andy Morrison stepped up and found the back of the net tying the contest at 1-1.
Despite putting up a hard fought battle the #1 Bishops proved to be too much for DePauw netting two late goals and escaping with a 3-1 victory. Peter Jacobi scored on a pass from Jon Stegner in the 86th minute. Jacobi’s goal proved to be the game-winner. Colton Bloecher knocked in his second goal of the night just 57 seconds later, scoring on a pass from Paolo Bucci.
The loss spells the end of DePauw’s school record 12 game undefeated streak. It is also their first loss in NCAC competition.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot the Tigers 10-7, while DePauw held a 5-2 edge on corner kicks.
DePauw is back in action Wednesday, October 16, when they travel to face Wittenberg. This NCAC contest is set to kickoff at 7 p.m.Back
