Morrison Strikes Twice; Tigers Tie Denison 2-2

Granville, Ohio- Facing a 2-0 deficit the Tigers needed two late goals to tie Denison 2-2 Saturday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
With the tie the Tigers improved to 14-2-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the NCAC, while the Big Red improved to 11-4-3 overall and 4-4-1 in NCAC play.
After a scoreless first half Denison jumped on the scoreboard just 32 seconds into the second period when Bob Casarona scored on a pass from Charlie Allen. The Big Red would increase their lead when Mark Waterman knocked in another pass from Allen with 69:42 on the clock.
Down two, the Tigers turned to captain Andy Morrison to cut into the Denison lead. Morrison stepped up to the challenge scoring twice in the final 15 minutes to push the game into overtime. In the 75th minute of regulation David Large chipped a ball towards the side of the goal that found Morrison’s head and deflected into the goal.
As the game entered the final five minutes the Tigers were desperate for a goal and were rewarded with a corner kick opportunity in the 88th minute. Adrian Ables delivered a ball that found the foot of Morrison who buried the ball in the back of the net.
Neither team managed to score in either overtime period resulting in a tie game. DePauw and Denison both attempted 16 shots in the contest. The Big Red held a 7-5 edge on corner kicks. Both goalies went the distance and made key saves to preserve the tie. Denison’s Matt Wagner made five saves while DePauw’s Jake Pezzuto grabbed six saves.
DePauw has secured their spot in the NCAC tournament, but will have to travel to either Kenyon or Ohio Wesleyan for their first round matchup. Check the DePauw Athletics webpage for updated information on the NCAC men’s soccer tournament.Back
