Junior Joel Kauth "Thrilled" with Experience as DePauw Student Athlete

July 28, 2016

Joel Kauth, a rising junior at DePauw University and a defensive end on the Tiger football team, "has been thrilled with his student athlete experience so far," reports his hometown newspaper, Indiana's Crawfordsville Journal Review.

"It’s more than what I expected," Kauth tells the paper. "Everyone is from different parts of the country, so I’ve gotten to make friends with guys of different backgrounds, religions and cultures than myself."

The article by Jared McMurry notes that Kauth started in all ten of last year's games and "collected 26 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss."

The piece describes a typical day for the communication major, which involves classes and working out or practicing. "Kauth also enjoys volunteering at a nearby elementary school and doing activities with his Alpha Tau Omega brothers," McMurry writes.

According to Kauth, "Staying organized is essential, because it’s easy to forget one of your responsibilities or commitments."

He adds, "Once you go through a couple of camps and seasons with your teammates, you learn to fight through adversity together which develops a trust within the team."
