Director of Acclaimed Choir, Julia White '83, Steps Down

"Julia J. White of Harrisonburg has resigned her position as artistic director and founder of the Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir," reports the Daily News-Record of Harrisonburg, Virginia. A 1983 graduate of DePauw University, "She began her work with 37 children in 1992 and grew the SVCC into five ensembles with 150 children and a staff of five."
The text adds, "White directed the SVCC at numerous invitational music conferences, including the American Choral Directors Association, Virginia Music Educators Association and the Organization of Kodaly Educators National Conference," and oversaw the production of 15 compact discs. "Under her direction, the SVCC toured to Italy, Hawaii, Florida, New York City, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C, and sang in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the White House, the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu and the Vatican in Rome, Italy ... White will continue as director of the Young Artists Music Studio for children 1-7 years old."
A music performance major at DePauw, White earned a master's degree from Westminster Choir College.
