Nathan Sprenkel '12 Eyes Roster Spot on New Pro Soccer Team

Nathan Sprenkel, a 2012 graduate of DePauw University where he was a standout goalkeeper on the men's soccer team, is among those trying to earn a spot on the roster of the new Indy Eleven. The team, which is scheduled to begin competing in the North American Soccer League next year, held its first tryout yesterday at Carroll Stadium on the west side of Indianapolis. "You want to represent your state," Sprenkel tells CBS affiliate WISH-TV. "You can tell the club is doing things the right way and to be a part of this organization would just be fantastic. I really couldn't think of anything better."

A psychology major, during his senior season Sprenkel earned second team all-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in addition to being named the North Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and garnering all-NCAC first team honors. He also was the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 in addition to earning all-SCAC and all-Great Lakes Region first team honors.
