Performing Arts Series Presents Singer-Songwriter Rachel Sermanni, Sept. 27

September 13, 2017

Scottish singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni brings her talents to DePauw University on Wednesday, September 27. Sermanni will perform a 7:30 p.m. concert in Thompson Recital Hall, located within the Judson and Joyce Green Center for the Performing Arts. Presented by DePauw's Performing Arts Series, the program is free and open to the public.

Sermanni was born in Italy and moved with her family at an early age to Carrbridge, Scotland, where she began writing songs in her early teenage years. She cites Van Morrison and Bob Dylan as her early songwriting influences, and as a performer she has opened for Mumford and Sons and Elvis Costello.

UK's Guardian says Sermanni is "quietly proving herself to be one of Britain’s most promising folk artists," while The Telegraph described her latest album, Tied to the Moon, as "grungy folk noir" and an "earthier collection of songs ... with roots in Nova Scotia," where the recording sessions took place.

Greencastle's Gus Moon will open the concert. Moon has toured more than a dozen states throughout the Midwest and Southeast and has previously opened shows for Carrie Newcomer, Peter Case, and David McMillan '06.

This event is presented in partnership with the 2017 Lotus World Music and Arts Festival of Bloomington, Indiana, and is supported by the Gilbert S. Lance Fund.
