Bob Vedder '66 Inducted Into Florida Press Association Hall of Fame

July 19, 2012

"Bob Vedder, retired publisher of the Venice Gondolier Sun, received another in a string of honors from his peers in the news business: He was inducted into the Florida Press Association's Hall of Fame." reports the Venice, Florida newspaper. "This latest recognition by his fellow publishers follows the 2010 presentation of a life membership in the organization, the newspaper trade association for Florida newspapers since its founding in 1879," writes Kim Cool.

Vedder, a 1966 graduate of DePauw University, "is a past FPA president and a current member of the FPA Foundation board of trustees. He also is a member of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association Small Newspapers Committee and vice president of Sun Coast Media Group, parent company of the Gondolier Sun."

The text adds, "Vedder followed his father, the late Byron Vedder, into the news business after graduation from DePauw University, where he majored in history. He joined Dow Jones and Company, where he advanced to national production manager of EAST COLLEGE TOWER hdrworldwide operations before moving to Venice in 1978 to become general manager and publisher of the Gondolier Sun."

"He has been a significant part of the FPA for many years," says Dean Ridings, president and CEO of the Press Association. "His Best Idea Session was one of the most popular education offerings at our annual conference for several years. We value his contributions to the organization and are thrilled with this induction."

"The Venice community was lucky to have one of Florida's great publishers at the helm ofthe Venice Gondolier Sun for over 30 years," adds David Dunn-Rankin, president of Sun Coast Media Group. "There are less than 50 publishers in the Florida Press Hall of Fame. Bob's inclusion in that elite group is a reflection of his tireless drive and passion for our business and the city of Venice."
