Legacy Travel Club Names Rick Ropkey '77 CEO

March 27, 2015

Frederick "Rick" N. Ropkey, a 1977 graduate of DePauw University, has joined Legacy Travel Club, an Indianapolis-based startup, as chief executive officer. The company says it's "positioned to bring back the 'travel club' model to generations of Indianapolis natives, who crave direct flights to hard to reach destinations not currently served by commercial carriers that serve the area."

"Rick is a staunch believer in the value Legacy brings to Indianapolis," says Chris Allen, founder and president of Legacy Travel Club. "This is a fantastic day in the journey to bring back a beloved chapter in Indianapolis history." Allen added.

Legacy says it will soon announce a partnership with an existing air carrier to serve the Indy and Louisville markets and hopes to begin full-time operations within six-to-nine months. The company plans to serve leisure destinations to the U.S., Canada, Caribbean and Mexico.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of this exciting venture that will mean so much to Indianapolis and the Louisville market," says Ropkey, who was previously president of Ropkey Graphics and co-founded the Ropkey Armor Museum in Crawfordsville, Indiana, with his father, Fred N. Ropkey '52.

"Flying should be enjoyed, not endured," Rick Ropkey adds. "Legacy brings back the fun to what flying used to be," he declares, adding that it will offer "first class flying without the first class price."
