"Life on the stage is pretty thrilling. Just ask Gary Life, manager of service excellence at Tidelands Health, and the hundreds of theatergoers who saw him perform in the Strand Theater’s fall production of Forever Plaid," reports South Carolina's Georgetown Times. (photo by Mark Roberts)

The newspaper notes that after Life graduated from DePauw University in 1985, "he worked as a French and Spanish translator for RCI, the world’s largest vacation ownership exchange company and did a lot of local theater in Indianapolis and Orlando. Then in 1996, he joined The Walt Disney Co. in The EPCOT Acting Co."

"It was the most fun job I’d ever had," says Life, who majored in French as an undergraduate. "I narrated The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, played Patch the Pirate on the fireworks cruise and was Pere Noel, the French storyteller for holidays around the world. Getting to perform in front of thousands of people every day and delight them with tales about different cultures was exhilarating."

He adds, "Theater allows me to recognize that there are other perspectives and viewpoints. It also helps me in my job because I am able to draw on my own experiences and those of characters that I’ve played and to recognize the different perspectives of our patients and their families."
