Guest Speaker Dr. Dorothy Hodgson
October 12, 2014
We're excited to announce that
Dr. Dorothy Hodgson
will be speaking on the topic
GENDER JUSTICE, HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE PROBLEM OF CULTURE
on October 30 at 4:15 in the Watson Forum room.
Professor of Anthropology at Rutgers University and former Director of the Rutgers’ Institute for Research on Women, Dr. Hodgson will draw on examples from her long-term historical and ethnographic research with Maasai pastoralists in Tanzania to explore how what is often referred to as the “problem of culture” in contemporary debates about human rights shapes the expression and experience of gender justice by “grassroots” women in Africa. The talk is sponsored by Anthropology, Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Black Studies, and Conflict Studies, and is open to the public.
