E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation Provides Funding for Improved Access to Japanese Folding Screens

January 13, 2017

GREENCASTLE, IN (November 21, 2016) – The E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation recently announced a $13,274 gift to assist with improvements to the care of nine Japanese folding screens at the Richard E. Peeler Art Center. In an effort to modernize access to the collections for student and faculty use, DePauw University staff will replace an existing storage bin with museum-quality storage furniture and purchase a new HEPA vacuum to more effectively clean and preserve the Japanese screens and collection storage areas.

In recent years, the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation has provided DePauw University with generous support to consolidate and improve storage and access to Asian art holdings. The Foundation has also nurtured various curatorial initiatives, including the recent exhibition and publication: Abstract Traditions: Postwar Japanese Prints from the DePauw University Permanent Art Collection.
To learn more about permanent art collection holdings and how they might benefit DePauw University student and faculty teaching and research opportunities as well as K-12 education, please contact Alexandra Chamberlain, Assistant Curator of Exhibitions and Education at 765-658-4884 or alexandrachamberlain@depauw.edu
