Contemporary Composer Libby Larsen Featured in Music Events

November 1, 2000, Greencastle, Ind. - Renowned contemporary composer Libby Larsen will be in residence at the DePauw University School of Music from November 8-10. She will speak and her music will be performed in a Celebration of New Music in conjunction with the Indiana Music Teachers Association state convention.

Larsen will speak on "The Role of Women in New Music Composition" on Wednesday, November 8 at 11:15 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center, Thompson Recital Hall.

On Thursday, November 9 at 1 p.m. in Thompson Recital Hall, Larsen will give a lecture on the role of new music composition and its integration into other genres, including rock. DePauw School of Music students and faculty, including the Musical notesUniversity Band, will perform a concert of her music at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, Kresge Auditorium.

DePauw and the IMTA jointly commissioned a choral work from Larsen, and the piece will be premiered by the Indianapolis Children's Choir on Friday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. in East College, Meharry Hall.
