Jazz Ensemble and Combo Concert December 5

November 30, 2000, Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw University Jazz Ensemble and Combos will present a concert on Tuesday, December 5 at 9:30 p.m. in the Emerson Room of the Walden Inn. Admission is $2. Food and drinks will be available.
Joining the groups will be jazz trumpeter Larry Wiseman and drummer John Von Ohlen.
Wiseman, professor of trumpet at DePauw, is one of the Midwest's most sought-after studio musicians. He plays in the pit orchestras of most of the Broadway musicals coming through Indianapolis. He is playing lead trumpet with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, one of the nation's premier jazz ensembles.
John Von Ohlen is one of jazz music's finest big band drummers. He first gained fame in the 70's as drummer for Stan Kenton's big band. He has also played with Woody Herman's big band, the Cologne Radio Jazz Orchestra and many others. He leads a big band, The Blue Wisp, in Cincinnati.
The ensembles will perform a variety of music from the big bands of Count Basie, Woody Herman and Bob Mintzer, as well as a variety of jazz standards.
