June 12, 2001
June 12, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. - Thomas P. Cooper, a physician and entrepreneur and a 1966 graduate of DePauw University, helped pay his way through medical school by setting up coffeemakers outside of classrooms and selling the beverage to fellow students. Today he is president and CEO of OnCall Healthcare Communications, a San Diego-based company that links people who have health-related questions with nurses who provide answers over the telephone.
OnCall Healthcare employs 100 people, including 70 nurses, and reported more than $5 million in annual revenue last year. A news article in the San Diego Daily Transcript focuses on Dr. Cooper, his company, and his alma mater. It says, “Cooper's experience with critical decision-making probably began on the football field while in undergraduate school at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. He was a receiver on the team and is in the school's athletic hall of fame.”
