Want Some Jazz? Opportunity is 'Straight Ahead' Friday
October 30, 2001
October 30, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. - This Friday, November 2, the Student Services Series continues with a musical performance by the internationally recognized all-female jazz ensemble, Straight Ahead, at 9 p.m. in Thompson Recital Hall.
The inventive instrumentalists and vocalists of the Detroit-based group have distinguished themselves as imaginative composers and arrangers. While receiving rave reviews as a collective, the individual members of Straight Ahead have performed on the side with the likes of Chaka Khan, Kirk Lightsey, Ralph Peterson, Hank Jones and Ellis Marsalis. The group has performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the 1996 Olympics, and at jazz festivals and concerts around the world.
L.A. Jazz Scene writes, "They've gotten rave reviews for their musicianship, their innovative approach to jazz, and for the frisky and fun attitude they bring to the stage." Two samples of Straight Ahead's music are available here:
