March Madness x2 at DePauw This Weekend
February 27, 2002
February 27, 2002, Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw men's and women's basketball teams, both champions of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and both ranked in the top ten of Division III nationally, earned first-round byes in the 2002 NCAA Division III Tournament and will host second round games in the Division III NCAA Basketball Championships on Saturday, March 2. The women (22-3) play Maryville, Tenn. (20-7) at 3 p.m. on Saturday, while the men (22-3) will play Wittenberg (26-3) at 7 p.m.
The women are making their fourth tournament appearance in the last seven years. The Tigers advanced to the "sweet sixteen" in both 1998 and 1999. The men are making their 10th appearance in the NCAA tournament and first since the 1992-93 season.
Tickets, which went on sale Wednesday afternoon, are still available at the Lilly Center from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. To avoid long lines on game day and to assure seating, it is recommended that people purchase their tickets in advance. Any remaining tickets will be sold on Saturday, with the doors opening one hour prior to both games (2 p.m. for the women; 6 p.m. for the men). Since these are separate NCAA events, a ticket must be purchased for each game. The gym will be cleared immediately following the women's game.
Ticket prices, set by the NCAA, are $4 for adults ($4); $3 for students, senior citizens and children over the age of five. There is no admission charge for children age five and under.
