CBS Sports Program Features Footage from DePauw

May 28, 2003

May 28, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - Sports fans watching CBS Sunday afternoon may have done a double-take. The network's hour-long program of NCAA winter sports' highlights featured more than a few glimpses of DePauw University's award-winning indoor track and tennis center, several of which can be seen in the screen grabs that accompany this story. The video was taken by a CBS crew during the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at DePauw March 14-15.

In its brief two year history, the indoor center has already hosted the 2001 Division III Men's Tennis Championships and was named one of the outstanding public tennis facilities by the United States Tennis Association. Page Cotton, director of athletics at DePauw, says athletes, coaches and administrators who see the facility leave in awe. "Believe me, when people see this building, and the rest of our beautiful campus, they carry a very positive message back to their communities across America. That's great for DePauw." NCAA President Myles Brand, who attended the March championship, gave DePauw and its center a "gold star" (read more here).

Just ask Aquila Williams-Judge, a high school star who could have chosen a different path." Williams-Judge, who is on the track team at Wheaton College (Massachusetts), says, "I had plenty of Division I offers. I wanted to go D-3 because D-1 was more like 'put track first' and I wanted to focus on my academics, so I went D-3."
