June 16, 2003

June 16, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - An article in the Indianapolis Star notes the commentators for NBC's coverage of the U.S. Open over the weekend included "Mark Rolfing (a former college golf teammate of Dan Quayle at DePauw University)." Rolfing, a 1971 graduate of DePauw, has worked as a golf reporter for both NBC and ABC since 1988, when he provided commentary for the peacock network's coverage of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Rolfing began his commentating career at ESPN in 1986 and hosts Golf Hawaii, a 30-minute magazine format golf and travel show on the Golf Channel. (photo shows Rolfing (r) interviewing Ernie Els)

Following a successful high school and college golf career, Mark Rolfing turned professional in 1973 and spent two years competing in professional tours from Europe to Asia. He later helped create the Isuzu Kapalua International tournament and founded Rolfing Productions, which is involved in the management and promotion of events with the PGA Tour, Senior PGA Tour, tennis, windsurfing and college basketball. Rolfing was inducted into the Hawaii Golf Hall of Fame in 2000. A recipient of a bachelor's degree in political science from DePauw and a Master of Arts degree in education from Northern Illinois University, Rolfing is also a member of the DePauw Athletic Hall of Fame.
