Record Women's Basketball Team Fundraiser Honors Memory of Amy Hasbrook '00

August 7, 2003

August 7, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - The 2002-03 DePauw University women's basketball team is remembering a friend and former teammate, and helping a very worthy cause, through its year-long fund-raising efforts. This weekend, a check in the amount of $10,034 will be presented to the People's Burn Foundation in memory of Amy Hasbrook. Amy, who graduated from DePauw in 2000 and wore number 34 throughout her four-year DePauw women's basketball career, lost her life in a house fire on February 4, 2002 (read more here). It was in her memory that the 2002-03 Tigers chose and worked for the cause. (photo by Marilyn E. Culler)

The team thanks the many people who contributed to the effort, in the ninth straight season the women's team has engaged in a fund-raiser. Assistant women's basketball coach Mary Smith says, "Chances are, the total will forever serve as the team's all-time high, as it eclipsed the previous one-year high by nearly $4,000. This is a tribute to Amy's goodness, and the generosity of the DePauw and Greencastle communities." Coach Smith adds, "From each of us, in Amy's memory, you have our heartfelt thanks."
