Sarasota Herald-Tribune Writes of Freshman's Football Successes

December 4, 2003

December 4, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - "Luis Davila, a starting defensive end for Charlotte High on the Tarpons' region championship team last year, won the Edwin C. Boswell Freshman Award for his performance during his first season at DePauw University, a Division III school in Indiana," writes Dennis Maffezzoli in Florida's Sarasota Herald-Tribune. "Davila began his collegiate career by blocking two punts (one returned for a touchdown) in DePauw's 28-26 victory over Rhodes College (Memphis). For his opening day performance, he received national recognition, being named to the D3.com NCAA Division III Team of the Week. Davila also was named Special Teams Player of the Game for the Tigers."

The article continues, "He ended the season with 21 tackles, one sack, one quarterback pressure and forced one fumble, along with his two blocked punts. In addition to being named Player of the Game against Rhodes College, Davila shared Player of the Game honors with a group of teammates in four other games: Hanover College (defensive unit), University of Chicago (kickoff coverage unit), Millsaps (kickoff return unit), and Centre College (kickoff coverage unit). Against Centre, Davila had three tackles inside the 20-yard line on kickoffs."
