Mike Davis '90 Named Head Football Coach at Illinois' Dundee-Crown HS

March 25, 2004

March 25, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - "Mike Davis has paid his coaching dues, with stops at DePauw University, Lake Forest College, Barrington High School and, most recently, Dundee-Crown [High School]," begins an article in Illinois' Pioneer Presson the 1990 DePauw graduate. "Friday, Davis was rewarded for his previous experience on the grid iron, and more importantly, his desire to take control and turn things around for the Chargers, after being tabbed as the next varsity football coach at D-C. Davis, who was the offensive coordinator for the Chargers last season following two years as the sophomore coach, holds a master's degree in history from DePauw, where he also played and later became a graduate assistant."

"Mike's just a classy guy," says Dundee-Crown Athletic Director Dick Storm. "He's always wanted to coach football and he's going to get his chance... Kids and coaches would come up to us and tell us how much they wanted Mike to be our coach. I've worked with Mike a long time. He's very organized and he's very professional. But I think the thing that affected me the most was the way the kids supported him. ... (His) popularity among the kids and their desire for him to be coach was one of the most important things."
