Member of Missouri State Champ HS Basketball Team Chooses DePauw

April 27, 2004

April 27, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - "St. Joseph's Academy senior Kalei Lowes committed this week to play basketball for DePauw University, an NCAA Division III program located in Greencastle, Indiana," wrote Jorie Lewis in Saturday's St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Lowes, a 5-8 guard, averaged six points for the Angels' 26-4 Missouri Class 5 championship team. In her fourth year on the varsity, Lowes was a standout on defense and routinely was given the assignment of guarding the opposing team's top offensive player. An honorable mention All-Metro selection, Lowes also was named to the academic all-state team."

The story quotes Lowes' high school coach, Julie Matheny, as saying, "Kalei is a true competitor. She doesn't quit until she believes she is the best she can be, whether it is on the court or in the classroom. She has all the right ingredients to succeed at the next level." It also notes, "DePauw finished 26-4 this past basketball season, winning the Southern Central Athletic Conference."
