September 3, 2004

September 3, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - "DePauw is predicted to finish second in the Southern [Collegiate Athletic Conference], behind Trinity, which has won 11 straight league titles," notes the Indianapolis Star's preview of the 2004 football season. The campaign opens tomorrow when DePauw battles Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. Listen to Saturday's game live on student station WGRE by clicking here. Kick-off is at 1:30 p.m. EST.

The newspaper says DePauw's new head coach, "[Bill] Lynch has big shoes to fill, after the departure of longtime coach Nick Mourouzis, who won 138 games in his 23 years at DePauw. [Wide receiver and kick returner Jamarcus] Shephard is expected to be a force on offense and special teams, where he excelled in 2003, winning the league's Special Teams Player of the Year award. [Quarterback Ross] Wiethoff should be a threat on the ground and in the air."
